Colombo Social is reopening on October 20th and we are so excited to be welcoming you back into our home in Enmore!

We have missed you all dearly and while we would have loved to have fulfilled the numerous requests for take-away, we need we had to be there for the communities who were really doing it tough.

Although we closed our doors on June 26th amidst increasing COVID restrictions, the Colombo Social team has continued working hard behind the scenes to serve the community through our food relief program at our PlateitForward headquarters in Darling Harbour.

We have remained community-centric and upheld our ethos of bringing connection and hope through food via both Colombo Social and our food relief program.

With that in mind, we are pleased to announce that the restaurant’s reopening coincides with a very special (albeit bittersweet) milestone: we have reached our target of 100,000 meals provided. That is 100,000 fresh, nourishing, restaurant-quality meals dished up to those in need across Sydney since the global pandemic hit last year!

In vulnerable communities, where people are already struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table, the stay-at-home orders have heightened existing inequalities such as poverty, disadvantage and social exclusion. This has seen us working overtime, and as the demand for food relief has tripled, so has our capacity to meet this demand. Between July and September requests for our meals jumped from 1,000 to 4,500 meals per week to support Aboriginal families in Redfern, Waterloo and the surrounding areas. Asylum-seekers, newly arrived Afghan and migrant families in Sydney’s western suburbs, social housing tenants and people experiencing homelessness.

This would not have been possible without the ongoing generosity of our many supporters, ambassadors and partners but most importantly, you our customers.

While we recognise that this milestone is no ordinary feat, it is not one we plan to celebrate in the usual manner. This is because we are idealists and would prefer to live in a world where our services are not required. One in which no one is left behind or ever has to go hungry. With that being said, we are also realists, and in the meantime, we will continue to remain committed to our mission of harnessing the power of food to help those that need it most.

If you’d like to help us achieve this mission, get yourselves into Colombo Social from next week.

“Change can only happen as a collaborative effort when the whole community works together to help people in need. By dining at Colombo Social and choosing a set menu you are feeding someone in need. You are part of this change and this movement and we are grateful for every customer who chooses to dine for good”

–  Shaun Christie-David

We will be adhering to the government’s COVID-19 rules and restrictions at Colombo Social and PlateitForward, including those with respect to social distancing. This means we will have limited capacity, so bookings are essential to ensure you don’t miss out. We look forward to seeing you!
